NEW ADDITIONS FROM RECENT PROJECTS

THE WORLD OF NARNIA:
The Chronicles of Narnia Deluxe Box Set

      Part of the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe box-set, deluxe edition is an amazing documentary about CS Lewis. It is called The World of Narnia. M. David Melvin directed this gem. The story is compelling and structured to mirror The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis’ masterpiece.

      We went for a chamber orchestra sound for the most part, recording with a 40 piece orchestra. The result is very "British," I think. Jon Baumgarten played the solo flute parts and Terri Lazar played all the violin solos. Tim White brought his round, perfect trumpet tone to this score. As always, the musicians are the best part of the gig.

      The small team that worked on this film was one of the best I have ever worked with. Dave Melvin, of course, and John Laux, the editor, were the key ingredients to making a really great film out of what might have been nothing more than a DVD extra. I am truly proud of this piece. I hope it gets some airtime and some sort of life of its own.

THE APPALACHIANS
PBS

These two tracks are from a new three part series for PBS called "The Appalachians." The brilliant Phylis Geller produced this under the guiding hand of MariLynn Evans. Sam Green and Barbara Burst edited. The best part of this was putting together an all-star string band: Bob (Sparky) Spates on fiddle and mandolin, Chris Kosky on bass and Paul Bell on his various guitars. I played the banjo (yes.... who knew?) The recordings were all done at Cue Recording Studios in Falls Church ,VA with Ken Shubert engineering. The show premiers on Nashville Public Television in March and I think I will get to meet Loretta Lynn at the kick off party.

PAPER CLIPS

Paper Clips Orchestral Theme
      This is from wonderful new documentary that I just finished called "PaperClips." It is the story of the people of Whitwell, Tennessee and their junior high school's project designed to to teach their kids about the Holocaust. It is an astonishing little film that makes almost everyone weep- mostly tears of hope and joy. Miramax has picked this up and it is currently running at the Angelika in New York. We'll see where it goes from here. Congratulations to Bob Johnson, Joe Fab and Elliot Berlin, the amazing guys who made this film.

Paper Clips (Small Group Cue 1)
      There were three sorts of music for "PaperClips" these cues were from the chamber group sessions featuring Janice Martin, again. I just love her playing. Also Greg Watkins is on double Bass with Rober Sullivan on guitar and Lukasz Czyner on cello. I think the sound here perfectly reflects the Appalachian setting with the overtones of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe.

      The third group of sessions took place in Nashville with Alison Krauss. She sang the end titles and two tunes for the interior of the film. She was not only flawless and inspiring, she was funny. I don't think I have ever worked with such a genuinely funny singer. And as you can imagine, she stole my heart.

THE LAST DAYS OF CLEOPATRA TBA
	What's So Great About American Boys? This is the"'girls against the boys song." You can hear the beautiful Jennifer Timberlake here, and, as Freddy, Patrick O'Neill. I think that both these performers have a bright future on the Great White Way.

AN UNTOLD TRIUMPH PBS
	AN UNTOLD TRIUMPH (Main Theme) This is a score I wrote for a wonderful filmmaker named Sonnny Izon. It was narrated by Lou Diamond Phillips.
	AN UNTOLD TRIUMPH (Bataan Theme) It is the amazing story of the 1st and 2nd Filipino Army Regiments who fought in the re-taking of the Philippines in WWII.

WAR STORIES A Multi Screen Presentation at the Newseum
	WAR STORIES (Civil War Theme) These tracks are from a huge multi screen project at the Newseum in Washington DC.
	WAR STORIES (World War I Theme) The pieces evoke the Civil War, World War One and The Korean War respectively. The images are an incredibly powerful anti-war message.
	WAR STORIES (Korean War Theme) It was a powerful piece aired on a screen that was one hundred and twelve feet long, divided into nine screens at times, three at times , one enormous image at times.

JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME PBS
	Journey Of A Lifetime (The Nile) A documentary by the amazing Graham Townsley.
	Journey Of A Lifetime (Main Theme) Graham is one of those people who are fluent in six languages AND play piano well AND are terrefic film makers!

TESLA - Master Of Lightning PBS
	TESLA: Master Of Lightning (String Theme) The string section theme. The accompanying hardcover book "Tesla: Master of Lightning" is out in finer bookstores everywhere. If you are into this arcane subject, it is a must.

TESLA: Master Of Lightning (Closing Theme)
The closing theme, where all the musical sub-themes are tied together.

HOLOCAUST: The Untold Story
	Holocaust: The Untold Story - Theme 1 Paul Sparrow's documentary on The New York Times' non-involvment with reporting the Holocaust during World War II. This features Janice Martin on her 1708 Stradivarious violin. She is a beautiful player. Her solo CD is out now on Sonoris (# SCD5159). Check out her performance of the Corigliano Sonata for violin and piano .

Holocaust: The Untold Story - Cello Solo
The cello soloist here is David Teie. He took this short piece and made it into something truly special.

Understanding Evolution The Learning Channel
	Understanding Evolution This is such a sweet cue I couldn't help but want a few more people to hear it. John Wubbenhorst plays flute here. And I am playing the guitar!

The performers here are Nery Arevalo on Udu and Steve Bloom on Bierenbau.
Is this a great sound or what?

A GHOST OF A CHANCE (Main Theme)
This was a TV show for the now nearly dead Rysher. Randy Gerston was the music supervisor on this. It was a wonderful opportunity to work with him. Since he supervised "Titanic" he opened his own shop: Seehear Music.

THE LONELY RUN
The trumpet solo here is by the legendary Rick Baptiste.

CHASING ESQUAVELLE
This is a chase scene using what I learned from old (are there any other kind) Esquavelle recordings. All that's missing is Alvino Rey. (Actually, Grant Geissman is the guitarist on this session, and he plays about as nicely as anyone could want.)

From the new release by "CHAISE LOUNGE" This song was suggested by Russell Ziecker, now VP at Milan Records. Were I not such a staunch David Byrne fan, I would call this the definitive version.

THE EFFECTS OF MAGIC
I fashioned this piece to sound like one of my musical heros, Astor Piazzola. And I was lucky enough to have Bob (Sparky) Spates play the violin part of this recording. He has an exceptional ability to play this very difficult material.

CERTAIN GUYS
A feature film. The director of this film is a very talented man named Stephen James. I only mention that so that when he is incredibly famous, I can document the fact that I worked with him first.

This is the scene where everyone cries in the film Certain Guys.

This is the scene in Certain Guys where everyone laughs.

HUDSON RIVER BLUES, (Main Titles)
A feature film, recently aired on "The Romance Channel." One of the featured actresses in this film by Nell Cox, is Jane Krakowski from Ally McBeal. She sings in the film, and has an amazing voice. Perhaps I will put that audio clip up sometime soon for her fans to download.

Last year I had the pleasure of conducting an orchestral concert of all my own work.
I have included two selections from that concert.

Concerto in Fourths, 2nd movement, Allegro
This first is the Allegro from my Violin Concerto: Concerto in Fourths. Janice Martin performs this with with an intense rock and roll energy. She is a great player- but beyond that, she is a performer!

The Blue Chevrolet
This is the third movement of my symphony, "The Blue Chevrolet," it is called The Detour, The Argument, and finally, The Map. "The Blue Chevrolet," is essentially a musical home movie of my family's Summer Vacation road trip to Maine circa 1962.
